Disaster Lander November 2022
Many additions to report in this first devlog for Disaster Lander.
Happy Thanksgiving
Developments
While flight control has been in place for months, a major recent development is an in-flight UI that is accessible by pressing the Esc key. This allows viewing the damage level of spacecraft modules, turning individual spacecraft modules on & off, detaching modules, and some basic game functionality like pause and exiting the game. Different size storage modules exist as well as a more varied debris field. Landing detection has been working well on the surface when a landing leg module is used. Lots of fun development has been accomplished, but to actually launch the game will require more steady project velocity. As part of that a new goal is monthly dev logs updates.
- pixel art font
- ability to return spacecraft to engineering ship
- inventory tracking
- robotic arm can capture cargo from astronauts
- additional debris field objects
- in-flight UI in place for spacecraft
- turn modules on & off
- detach modules
- show altitude when landing leg module in use
- fixes to command module lighting
- enumerable bug fixes
Upcoming
Work in the immediate future will be focused on completing the EVA functionality for astronauts. There is a lot to be done regarding tracking astronaut health, the geometry for where astronauts should exit & return to spacecraft, and the current flight control of the astronaut leaves something to be desired. Flushing out in-flight UI for use while piloting an astronaut will also need to occur.
Thank you for your interest in the project.
